About the Cornerstone Inn

The Cornerstone Inn is located at 223 West Seminole in a quiet residental neighborhood, high on a hill overlooking downtown McAlester. Antique shops, golf courses, museums, and restaurants are just minutes away.
Rich in History

This was the former home of Mr. Anton Shirmer. Born in 1852 in the Alsace Lorraine area of France, he served in the Franco-Prussian War under Napoleon III and emigrated to America in 1872. Shirmer was a stone mason by trade who built some of McAlester's early buildings. Many of these are still standing. His "castle" boasts 20 inch thick walls of sandstone cut from a nearby hill. It also features a wonderful huge veranda that encircles the mansion on three sides, perfect for relaxing outdoors. The interior reflects the Victorian period throughout, with five large comfortable bedrooms to choose from.
